Last week, Nokia Siemens Networks announced plans for reorganisation, which involved massive cost savings and around 17,000 jobs being cut. Business areas that aren’t consistent with the new strategy were “planned to be divested or managed for value”.

One of those first areas to go is the WiMAX business, which NSN had picked up from Motorola Solutions earlier this year. It’s being acquired by NewNet Communication Technologies in the USA. NewNet is apparently acquiring the complete WiMAX product portfolio along with related employees and assets as well as customer and supplier contracts.

Ron Pyles, president and CEO of NewNet, said “The addition of the WiMAX business would enhance the breadth of NewNet’s product portfolio, R&D capabilities, customer relationships and our overall market position in providing wireless infrastructure solutions to carriers on a global basis. We are thrilled at the prospect of welcoming a world-class group of WiMAX pioneers and thought leaders to the NewNet team. NewNet recognizes there is enormous potential in providing outstanding products, support and services to operators who have already invested heavily in WiMAX technologies as well as those who will do so in the future. We are committed to serving the market with an industry leading roadmap and innovative product migration options.”

Around 300 Nokia Siemens Networks employees will move to NewNet.

ExclusiveKapture review: the audio-recording wristband

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
