LG Electronics is launching a beta version of its LG Cloud service tomorrow (1st May), enabling users to enjoy photos and videos across the ‘three screens’ of Android smartphones, PCs and smart TVs. Content is streamed in real time without the need to download it to the device.

The service is launching in South Korea and the USA, with other countries due to be added in the future. Basic services are expected to be free, with charges for additional storage. Consumers will need to download the LG Cloud app for their smartphones, smart TVs or computers.

LG has created a new division called Smart Business Center that’ll focus on content and services. Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, will be responsible for the new Smart Business Center.

Mr Kwon said “Most companies today only see the cloud as a storage device or in the case of YouTube or Flickr, only for one type of content. LG makes the devices that millions of people watch content on so we can set a new yardstick for ease of use by setting up our own cloud service. Tomorrow’s consumers don’t want to go to one cloud for music, another cloud for video, another location for photos and yet another cloud for their office files. In the end, our solution is about making life more convenient.”

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
