Intel-owned online security business McAfee has made its Mobile Security product available free to Android and iOS users. It follows an announcement made earlier this year by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich.

McAfee Mobile Security for Android includes anti-theft, anti-virus, app protection, web protection, call and SMS filtering. Deeper integration is available for devices running on Intel processors. A premium ad-free version is also available with phone-based support and media backup.

The free product for iOS devices offers a different level of production due to Apple’s app guidelines; it includes a secure vault for private content, secure camera, jailbreak detection and backup capabilities.

John Giamatteo, senior vice president and general manager of the McAfee consumer business, said “We live in an unprecedented era of always-connected devices, where security and privacy protection are fundamental. With free access to our award-winning mobile security product, consumers are free to experience everything this connected world has to offer, without fear of their personal information being compromised.”

The amount of Android malware almost trebled from 2012 to 2013, according to McAfee’s most recent Consumer Mobile Security Report.

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
