Microsoft has used Mobile World Congress 2015 to reveal a number of new smartphones powered by its Windows Phone 8.1 operating system, including two of its own phones. Windows Phone 8.1 is upgradeable to the forthcoming Windows 10 operating system.

These two ‘affordable’ Lumia phones are the Microsoft Lumia 640 and the Lumia 640XL. Both run on the 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor; the Lumia 640 has an 8-megapixel camera, a 5-inch screen and an anticipated SIM-free price of €159 + VAT (around £140 incl. VAT) for the 4G LTE model, while the Lumia 640 XL has a 5.7-inch screen and a 13-megapixel camera with a €219 price (around £192 incl. VAT). There are also lower-priced 3G/dual SIM versions. A one-year personal subscription to Office365 is included in the price, along with 1TB of OneDrive storage.

In addition, Microsoft CEO Stephen Elop says the company is planning new flagship devices later this year.

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.
