UK-based mobile phone manufacturer KAZAM is planning to launch the world’s thinnest smartphone next month. The KAZAM Tornado 348 is only 5.15mm deep, yet offers a 4.8-inch (1280 x 780) display and runs Android v4.4.2 on a MediaTek Octa-core 1.7GHz processor.

Built with an aluminium/magnesium alloy uni-body and Gorilla Glass protection for the screen, the Tornado 348 measures 139.8mm x 67.5mm x 5.15mm and weighs 95.5g. It’s equipped with an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5 megapixel front camera, a 2050mAh battery

As with other KAZAM smartphones, the Tornado 348 is covered by the company’s 12-month screen protection policy.

Jeffrey Ju, Senior Vice President and general manager of wireless communication at MediaTek, said “KAZAM is a prime example of the changing face of mobile technology – hitting the market with the slimmest mobile phone packed with our advanced, high performance MT6592 True Octa-core SoC. This partnership stands as testament to the way we work with an inclusive ecosystem to drive affordable technology into the hands of everyone.”

KAZAM’s Tornado 348 smartphone is due to go on sale in the UK from mid-November at a SIM-free cost of £249.

We spoke to KAZAM co-founder James Atkins in a podcast last November. You can listen to the interview via the built-in audio player on our website or by downloading the MP3 file.

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
