greentomatocars, which was established in 2006 as London’s first green minicab company, is now offering free WiFi in all its vehicles. It’s thought to be the first passenger car company in Europe to install a mobile hotspot service.

The company operates 300 Toyota Prius hybrid cars as well as people carriers and executive vehicles in the capital. Its free service is powered by individual WiFi units in each minicab with 3G mobile broadband SIM cards provided through an agreement with M2M specialist Wireless Logic.

Jonny Goldstone, founder of greentomatocars, said “London has long been recognised as a hub for technological innovation. In 2008 it was named the Wi-Fi capital of the world and in 2012 I think it would be fair to say it’s now the free Wi-Fi capital. You don’t have to work in the technology industry to see the importance of connectivity. With free in-car Wi-Fi we are able to offer our customers the access they need to stay connected.”

greentomatocars is the second largest minicab company in London. Other mobile innovatiosn offered by the company include an iPhone booking app and text messaging when a minicab arrives.

Well its a great idea, especially since alot of minicab passengers are working people who need a good internet connection even on their way to or from work especially since alot of mobile internet users dont have unlimited bandwidth. Haydons Cars which operates minicabs in Wimbledon is also looking into offering a WiFi hotspot in their vehicles. The more minicab companies that offer this the better.

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
