Oliver Dowden MP, the UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, has intervened in the sale of smartphone chip producer ARM Limited to NVIDIA Corporation. The $40 billion sale agreement, which was announced between NVIDIA and Softbank in
September 2020, is now subject to a
public interest intervention notice (PIIN) and will be investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority. The CMA will complete its report by the end of July 2021.
Earlier this year, the CMA
invited comments about the merger and the effect it might have on competition.
