iZettle launches in the UK on Apple iOS and Android

Image

iZettle, which offers a plug-in card reader that can turn smartphone into a credit card payment terminal, has launched officially in the UK. The company introduced a beta service to the UK earlier this year.

It’s also confirmed that the service will be available on Android as well as Apple iOS devices.

The iZettle service first launched in Sweden last summer and is now also available in Norway, Denmark, Finland and Germany as well as the United Kingdom. Users can take debit or credit card payments securely via an app and a plug-in chip-card reader.

iZettle’s UK launch is in partnership with EE, which is selling the card readers in its stores.

We spoke to iZettle CEO Jacob de Geer at Mobile World Congress in February. You can listen to the interview (which starts after around 12 minutes) via the built-in audio player below or by downloading the MP3 file.

I personally prefer mPowa (www.mpowa.com). I think mPowa's strategy and technology is superior. Just my two cents.

Did iZettle already settle their issues with Visa? I don't think so. I will just stick with mPowa (www.mpowa.com) which by the way is compatible to all credit card carriers. I agree with you Duff.

From izettle.com: "Which cards can I accept with iZettle? You can accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club debit and credit cards with iZettle. Visa transactions work slightly differently."

Predictions for 2016: Network Function Virtualisation, 4G throttling and video calling

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.

Kapture review: the audio-recording wristband

A 'recording watch' that links to your smartphone

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.

Device detection and responsive design explained

Mark Bridge writes:

James Rosewell shows me a colourful roll of paper that's the width of an iPhone but well over three metres long. When I look closer, I can see it's a printed copy of the Wall Street Journal's mobile website. That's a lot of scrolling to do... and a pretty unfriendly user experience for anyone reading the news online. Why does it work so badly?
