Tesco Mobile, which operates as a joint venture with O2 UK, has announced a ‘Tariff Promise’ to never raise its monthly mobile phone charges during the minimum term of a contract. The news comes just a week before the end of Ofcom’s consultation into mid-term price rises.
However, the Tesco price promise still excludes additional charges, such as premium rate numbers or international calls.
Most mobile phone contracts include a clause that allows price rises within the minimum fixed term of a contract as long as the price rise is no more than the rate of inflation.
Simon Groves, Chief Marketing Officer of Tesco Mobile, said “We believe it’s only fair to stick to the contract that we make with our customers, and see no reason to change the core tariff price that a customer has signed up to. We’ve never put our Pay-Monthly tariff prices up mid-contract and this Tariff Promise demonstrates our continued commitment to our customers. Being open and honest with them is incredibly important to us and we’re proud to be setting an example of best in class mobile service.”
