Since launching its iPad mini and updated fourth-generation iPad, Apple has sold three million of its tablet devices in just three days. That’s twice as many as it managed after the launch of the previous new iPad in March.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said “Customers around the world love the new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad. We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis. We're working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand.”
The iPad mini and the new iPad are currently available in 34 countries, with more due to be added later this year. Demand for the iPad mini exceeded supply, which means some pre-ordered tablets still haven’t been shipped yet.
At the moment it’s just the WiFi-only devices that are available; the mobile+WiFi versions of the iPad mini and the fourth generation iPad are expected in a few weeks.
