Carphone Warehouse promises to honour iPhone payments after Phones 4u declines refunds

Customers who paid in advance for an iPhone 6 from Phones 4u have now been told they won’t receive a refund. The UK retailer had taken advance orders for three days before going into administration earlier this month.

The Phones 4u website now advises customers to contact their credit card company or make a claim as an ‘unsecured creditor’ despite earlier assurances that any pre-payments would be refunded.

However, Carphone Warehouse has promised to reimburse former Phones 4u customers for any upfront payments if they buy a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

In a statement on its website, Carphone Warehouse says “We understand Phones 4U customers have been told they won’t receive a refund on their iPhone 6 contract pre-orders. We don’t think that’s fair, so we are offering to reimburse Phones 4U customers for any money paid upfront when they buy their new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus contract from us.”

The offer runs until the end of October 2014.
