Wholesale Applications Community gains 32 new members

The Wholesale Applications Community, formed in February to encourage the creation of an open applications platform, has been joined by 32 new organisations. It's also published the WAC 1.0 specification, which - following the merger of the Joint Innovation Lab with the WAC and the purchase of JIL's assets - is based upon JIL 1.2.2.

Six organisations are joining WAC at board level: Accenture, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Qualcomm and Samsung.  América Móvil, Bell Mobility, Bouygues Telecom, China Unicom, Hutchison 3 Group, KDDI, LG Uplus, MTS, Orascom Telecom, Rogers Communications and SFR are all joining WAC at Operator Member level, while Alcatel-Lucent, Fujitsu and LG Electronics are joining WAC as Sponsor Members. New Associate Members include Aplix, ASPire, Borqs, Capgemini, Innoace, LiMo Foundation, Myriad Group, Oberthur Technologies, Obigo, Opera Software, Oracle Corporation and ZTE.

Peters Suh, CEO of WAC, said "WAC now has 48 members committed to building open platforms, simplifying the application development process for developers and providing their customers with greater choice. The influx of new members, combined with our continued delivery against key milestones, demonstrates that the WAC initiative is gaining significant momentum in the market."
