Bitstream’s BOLT mobile browser has ended its inaugural year with 3.3 million downloads under its belt. Since launching in early 2009 the browser has rendered more than 380 million web pages and delivered 109 million minutes of streaming video.
Rather like the rival Opera and Skyfire mobile browsers, BOLT offers desktop-style page rendering by transcoding data via the company's own servers. It's able to stream video from many websites – including YouTube – and is compatible with most mobile phones.
Anna Chagnon, Bitstream president and CEO, said "Bitstream listened to user feedback and made incremental improvements over the course of 2009, earning BOLT even more good favor with its users and attracting the attention of handset manufactures who are preloading BOLT as the default mobile browser on new devices they are building. The company is looking forward to an even more flourishing 2010."
