The company was created by a group of former Nokia employees, with Sailfish using elements of Nokia’s old MeeGo platform. However, the Jolla/Sailfish device is also capable of running Android apps.

DNA, a fixed-line and mobile telecoms network in Finland, will be the first operator to offer Jolla smartphones. It says the first 450 handsets will be sold at a special event tonight from 7pm local time (5pm GMT). More will be available next month.

Jolla’s smartphone has a 4.5-inch qHD screen and runs on a Qualcomm dual-core 1.4GHz processor. There’s 16GB of expandable storage, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2 megapixel camera on the front. Dimensions are 131mm x 68mm x 9.9mm; the weight is 141g.
