Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi has been removed from the US government’s blacklist.
Earlier this year the American government added nine Chinese companies – including Xiaomi – to a blacklist that claimed those businesses had close links with the Chinese military. This prevented individuals and organisations in the USA from investing in those businesses.
Xiaomi then filed a lawsuit that resulted in a temporary halt to the ban. It’s now issued a Joint Status Report with the US Department of Defense that looks set to resolve the matter and formally remove Xiaomi from the military blacklist.
Xiaomi is currently the third-largest supplier of smartphones worldwide, according to
figures from Strategy Analytics.
