Apple has launched a small tracking device called
AirTag, described by the company as “an iPhone accessory that provides a private and secure way to easily locate the items that matter most”. It works in conjunction with Apple’s ‘Find My’ app.
AirTag is a battery-powered stainless steel device that can be used on its own or attached to an optional keyring or luggage tag. It has a built-in speaker to help with location. UK pricing is expected to be £29 each or £99 for a pack of four.
Find My location tracking can provide users with the distance and direction to lost items attached to an AirTag. The app will also show an item’s current or last-known location on a map. It links to the user’s iPhone or iPad by Bluetooth and can also connect via other iPhones when activated in ‘Lost Mode’.
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, said “We’re excited to bring this incredible new capability to iPhone users with the introduction of AirTag, leveraging the vast Find My network, to help them keep track of and find the important items in their lives. With its design, unparalleled finding experience, and built-in privacy and security features, AirTag will provide customers with another way to leverage the power of the Apple ecosystem and enhance the versatility of iPhone.”
