Figures from Juniper Research show Samsung and Apple continuing to dominate the smartphone market, with newly-expanded Lenovo in third place.
It estimates that 316.6 million smartphones were shipped in the third quarter of 2014. That’s a 13.1% increase year-on-year.
Samsung was responsible for a 24.8% share of the smartphone market, shipping around 78.6 million smartphones. Apple shipped 39.3 million iPhones, giving it 12.4% of the smartphone market worldwide, while combined Lenovo/Motorola shipments are estimated to exceed 23 million devices (7.3%) in the quarter.
The report notes that Samsung’s figures were down on the same quarter in 2013, while Apple’s were up. It also highlights the expansion of Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, which increased shipments by over 25% quarter-on-quarter to ship 19 million devices in Q3 2014.
