Mobile VoIP and virtual mobile network operator Truphone has created a desktop application for its VoIP service. It’s also announced a new name for its brand: Tru.
The new Tru desktop application is available for Windows XP/7/Vista, Mac OS X and all major distributions of Linux operating systems.
Tru's customers will be able to transfer their PC calls seamlessly onto their mobile phones. The desktop app also integrates a number of social networks and messaging services including Skype, Facebook, AIM, GoogleTalk and MSN.
Geraldine Wilson, CEO of Tru, said “Our customers can now enjoy all the benefits of Tru on their desktops and laptops, as well as their mobile device, so they can stay in touch for free or very low cost, regardless of their location. It can often be more convenient to call over the desktop when in a Wi-Fi location such as a hotel room, and our new Tru App for Desktop converges our expertise in mobile telephony with the personal computer, delivering a top notch calling experience wherever you are.”
Tru, which launched its mobile VoIP service in 2006, is currently available on iPhone, iPod, iPad, Android, Nokia and BlackBerry devices.
