LG Electronics says it’s sold more than one million units of its Optimus LTE smartphone. The 4G handset launched in South Korea last October and sold 600,000 units there in the first three months.
Mobile network operators in the USA, Canada and Japan are now also offering the device.
Dr Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company, said “With brisk sales for a high-end smartphone, the Optimus LTE reaffirms LG’s leadership in mobile LTE technology. The combination of LTE connectivity with LG’s True HD IPS display has resonated with the public regarding the potential of LTE technology.”
LG notes that it’s reportedly the owner of 23% of the world’s LTE patents, demonstrated the world’s first LTE technology in 2007 and conducted the world’s first video phone call on a LTE network in 2011.
