Quarterly results for UK mobile network EE show that its 4G customer has quadrupled year-on-year to 5.6 million connections; that’s up 1.4 million from the previous quarter. The company says this now gives it the biggest 4G base of any European mobile operator.
However, the total number of connections was largely unchanged at 31 million.
‘Pay monthly’ customer numbers were up 178,000 from the previous quarter, while ‘pay as you go’ numbers had fallen by 169,000.
The company’s financial results showed turnover and operating revenue both dropping slightly from the same quarter in 2013; turnover was down 2.5% to £1.591 billion while operating revenue was down 1.2% to £1.523 billion.
Neal Milsom, Chief Financial Officer of EE, said “We are delivering consistent underlying performance in a highly competitive environment while continuing to face significant regulatory pressure on our revenues. We are investing to further innovate on behalf of our customers by delivering not just the best network but also improvements in customer service, a range of attractive EE branded devices, Shared Plans, and soon EE TV.”
EE’s 4G service currently covers more than 75% of the UK population.
