Nokia Siemens Networks has announced a ‘Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution’ that allows mobile networks to offload their traffic to WiFi without any break in service. It removes any need to manually switch between WiFi and cellular broadband on mobile devices, helping mobile operators maintain network capacity. The service can support data and voice services.
Thorsten Robrecht, head of network systems product management at Nokia Siemens Networks, said “We all know that mobile data traffic is growing at an exponential rate due to the widespread adoption of smart phones, tablets and netbooks. All these devices support WiFi so integrating WiFi with mobile networks can reduce the need for additional capacity in the wider mobile network, particularly in traffic hotspot areas. People can enjoy a superior and seamless service without the hassle of having to choose among different networks and technologies, resulting in higher customer satisfaction and loyalty.”
The Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution from NSN will be available for commercial use later this year. It’ll be officially launched at Mobile World Congress next week.
