Punch Taverns expanding free WiFi coverage across its UK pubs

UK pub company Punch Taverns has arranged a deal with The Cloud to install free WiFi into its pubs. A number of its properties already have WiFi; they will now be transferred onto the new arrangement, which includes Punch covering the landlord’s running costs for two years.

Julie Clamp, Machine Development Manager at Punch, said “This free initiative puts our pubs on a level with managed houses, national coffee and restaurant chains. We have already seen pubs making the most of the opportunity WiFi offers, through introducing meeting space for business users, adding or upgrading a coffee offer to increase dwell time or adding social media followers through use of WiFi. We will be working with our licensees and The Cloud to make the most of the benefits that WiFi offers and to encourage our pubs to capitalise on this industry-leading opportunity.”

The Cloud already has almost 9,000 pubs on its UK WiFi network.

A time before Android

James Rosewell writes:

Whilst flicking through my drawer full of old handsets I thought back to a time when Apple produced a new MP3 player, newspaper editors didn't know what a smart phone was, and Android was only a press release. A quick flick through YouTube threw up the following interview with Microsoft's Steve Balmer offering his thoughts.

Why I don't care about the Google Nexus S

Mark Bridge writes:

The Google Nexus S. Search for it online and you’ll find over a million web pages talking about it.

But I don’t care about the Google Nexus S. Or the Nexus Two or the Samsung i9020 or whatever else you call it. Quite frankly, it’s not any use to me. My current rapidly-aging HTC TyTn II has more features than the Nexus S.
