2013 will be a breakthrough year for Sony in the mobile sector, says CEO

Sony Mobile used this year’s Mobile World Congress to emphasise its commitment to producing premium smartphones and tablets. The company also started distributing its flagship Xperia Z Android smartphone and announced that its Xperia Tablet Z would launch globally in Q2 2013.

Running a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z has a 10.1-inch screen and is splash-resistant to IP55 and IP57. It’ll be available in WiFi-only and 4G LTE versions, with the 4G model - just 6.9mm deep - being described as the world’s slimmest LTE tablet.

Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications, said “2013 will be a breakthrough year for Sony in the mobile sector. We are delivering on our objective to combine the best of Sony for an outstanding user experience. Sony Mobile’s Xperia products and content applications are designed around what consumers want and this approach is inherent in Sony’s DNA. We continue to set ourselves apart from the competition by creating products and services that only Sony can deliver.”

Sony’s Xperia Z smartphone was revealed at CES in January.
