IT business Oracle has agreed to acquire Tekelec, a US-based business that specialises in helping communications networks manage their data. Tekelec’s technology is currently used by more than 300 service providers in over 100 countries.

Oracle says it plans to combine Tekelec’s services with those from Acme Packet, another recent acquisition, to provide leading a complete communications offering. The companies will operate independently until the acquisition is completed.

Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager at Oracle Communications, said “As connected devices and applications become ubiquitous, intelligent network and service control technologies are required to enable service providers to efficiently deploy all-IP networks, and deliver and monetize innovative communication services. The combination of Oracle and Tekelec will provide service providers with the most complete solution to manage their businesses across customer engagement, business and network operations, service delivery and end user applications.”

We spoke to Doug Suriano, Chief Technology Officer of Tekelec, in our podcast on 30th July 2012. You can listen to the interview via the built-in audio player on our website or by downloading the MP3 file.
