Spotify creates a free mobile music service for smartphone and tablet users

Online streaming music service Spotify has launched a free ad-supported player for smartphone and tablet users. Previously the company’s mobile service was only available as a chargeable option.

Customers can now stream millions of songs to Android or Apple phones and tablets at no charge (except for the cost of mobile data).

Daniel Ek, Spotify’s CEO and co-founder, said “Today we’re giving people the best free music experience in the history of the smartphone and the tablet,” said . “Whether you’re going to the gym, or having a party with friends. Just sit back and let Spotify serve you great music for every moment of your life.”

The Spotify Premium service will remain available for ad-free music in higher quality and with an offline mode.
