O2 fined £150,000 for failures during investigation

UK communications regulator Ofcom has fined the O2 network £150,000 for failing to provide accurate and complete information during an investigation.

Earlier this year, Ofcom investigated O2 for overcharging thousands of customers who chose to leave the network. This resulted in a fine of £10.5 million.

As part of the investigation, Ofcom requested information from O2 but was given incorrect and incomplete responses. Ofcom noted that O2 had failed to provide accurate and complete information on previous occasions, which "demonstrated a level of carelessness in responding to our information requests", it said.

The penalty of £150,000 includes a 25% reduction as a result of O2 accepting liability. The money will go to HM Treasury.
