Tim Cook makes apology for Apple iOS 6 Maps

Apple CEO Tim Cook has published an open letter apologising for the frustration that’s followed the recent launch of Apple Maps. The company’s new Maps application, which forms part of the iOS 6 operating system used by the new iPhone 5, has been criticised for a lack of detail and poor accuracy in some cases.

In his letter, Mr Cook says “At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.”

He goes on to recommend alternatives to use “while we’re improving Maps”, including apps such as Bing, MapQuest and Waze or web-based services including Google and Nokia.

The letter ends by saying “Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.”
