Irish regulator says Hutchison 3G Ireland calculated prepay figures incorrectly

Irish communications regulator ComReg says Hutchison 3G Ireland (Three Ireland) has admitted miscalculating the number of active prepay users on its network. The figures, which are used in ComReg's Quarterly Key Data Report, have been incorrectly stated since 2006.

Active prepay users are considered to be customers who've used credit by making an outgoing call, sending a message, browsing the internet or who have purchased a top-up in the previous 90 days. H3GI has apparently been quoting registered users rather than the number of active users, which means recent ComReg Quarterly Reports on the Irish communications market have also been incorrect.

Recent figures from Three showed it had over 550,000 customers in Ireland; a combination of pre-pay and 'pay monthly' users.
