giffgaff returns to free data for a month

UK network giffgaff introduced data charges to its standard tariff at the beginning of April. It had previously offered limited data access as a free trial to its customers.

In a blog post, the network admits it’s recently had problems with the service - traced to technical issues with its parent network, O2 - and is consequently removing its data charges until the issues are fixed.

giffgaff says it expects the service to be restored at the end of May and plans to start charging for data from 1st June 2011.

We spoke to giffgaff Social Media Manager Heather Taylor in January 2011; simply click here to listen to the podcast via the audio player on our website.

Even when giffgaff do start charging again for internet, users with £10 goodybag or more will continue to get unlimited internet on their mobile. For payg users the costs will be 20p per day for upto 20MB.

Anyone with an unlocked smartphone or one locked to O2 I'd recommend checking out giffgaff. If you then decide to join, I and other member can provide sims with £5 extra credit. Order one from bit.ly/freeggsim
