Apple withdraws two-pin iPhone power adaptor from much of Europe

UK three-pin chargers not affected

Apple has warned customers that its two-pin iPhone mains chargers may overheat “in rare cases”. However, the three-pin model used in the UK is not affected.

The A1300 5W European USB power adapter was supplied with some iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models shipped from October 2009 to September 2012. It was also available as a separate accessory.

Customers in Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Vietnam are being asked to check the model number of the charger.

Customers with a potentially faulty A1300 power adaptor are being offered a free exchange for a new adaptor, which has a model number of A1400.
