It’s claimed there’s recently been some dodgy equine activity in the mobile industry. No, I’m not talking about the dancing pony that promoted Three UK. I’m not even making lasagne jokes. I’m talking about the ‘Trojan horse’ threatening to monopolise the mobile marketplace.

ExclusiveTablet shipments this year expected to rise 38%

Figures from ABI Research predict tablet sales this year will increase 38% year-on-year to approximately 150 million tablets worldwide, with the total retail value of shipments up 28% to an estimated $64 billion (£42 billion).

Around 60% of tablet shipments in 2012 were Apple iPads using the iOS operating system software while 37% ran Android or derivative platforms.

ExclusiveUK mobile advertising spend is now almost 10% of all internet ad spending

Figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau UK digital ad spend report show that spending on mobile advertising in the UK exceeded half a billion pounds last year. Mobile advertising grew by 148% to £526 million in 2012 from £203.2 million in 2011.

As a result, mobile now accounts for 9.7% of all digital advertising spending.

ExclusiveMobile location-based advertising expected to be worth £5.6 billion in 2017

Berg Insight has forecast that the real-time mobile location-based advertising and marketing market will grow from a worldwide value of €526 million last year to €6.5 billion (£5.6 billion) in 2017, which is a compound annual growth rate of 65%.

This will be 32.8% of all mobile advertising and marketing, giving location-based advertising and marketing around 5% of the digital advertising market.
