ExclusiveSmartphones continue to affect camera and handheld game console sales

​Smartphones are still eating into the market share of portable consumer electronics devices, according to a new report from ABI Research.

Annual shipments of digital cameras are expected to fall by over 11% worldwide compared with last year - and by almost 20% in North America. Meanwhile, shipments of handheld game players are expected to drop by 4% worldwide year-on-year and by nearly 13% in the North American market.

ExclusiveOfcom publishes its latest UK mobile phone complaints research

Ofcom has published its latest complaints data, revealing the telecoms and pay TV providers that it receives the most complaints about. This report only includes complaints that have been made directly to Ofcom, so it differs from the recent customer service survey that contacted consumers and asked for their feedback.

The quarterly report, which covers July to September 2012, is the regulator’s seventh such publication.

The City of London Corporation has extended its partnership with WiFi provider The Cloud, enabling anyone to enjoy unlimited free WiFi inside the ‘Square Mile’ financial district.

There’s been a free WiFi service available in the City of London since 2007, although until now it’s only been free for the first 15 minutes. A temporary arrangement to provide unlimited access during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games saw user numbers almost double compared with the previous three months.

ExclusiveFree WiFi coming to railway journeys in Scotland

Scottish rail operator ScotRail is bringing free WiFi to all of its ‘class 170’ express trains.

The company has been running a trial scheme on four trains since the summer. WiFi equipment will now be installed on 55 additional trains from March 2013 during planned weekend maintenance to avoid taking the trains out of service.
