ExclusiveProfits down but sales volume up for Nokia

Nokia's just published its Q2 2010 figures. They show operating profit down 40% on the previous quarter (and down 31% year-on-year), although exchange rates helped net sales to increase slightly. The number of mobile devices shipped was up 8% year-on-year to 111.1 million units for the three-month period, while smartphone and mobile computer sales were up 42% year-on-year to 24 million units.

Voice, data and mobile communications provider Azzurri Communications has appointed Mark Quartermaine as its new Chief Executive Officer. He's leaving his current role as UK President of BT Global Services. Mr Quartermaine replaces Gordon Matthew, who joined as CEO in 2008 to allow founder Martin St Quinton more time to expand the business.

ExclusiveMotorola takes legal action against Huawei

Motorola is suing Huawei Technologies for allegedly conspiring with former Motorola employees to steal trade secrets. Huawei has called the complaint "groundless and utterly without merit".

In 2008, Motorola sued five former workers for allegedly taking Motorola information with them when they joined one of Huawei's resellers.

UK communications regulator Ofcom has announced changes to the way fixed-line and mobile phone companies deal with customer complaints. From next year, UK communications providers will need to include information about dispute resolution services on all paper bills. They'll also be obliged to write to consumers whose complaints have not been resolved within eight weeks to tell them about their right to take complaints to a dispute resolution service.
