Samsung loses US patent dispute - but Apple loses as well

A court in California has ordered Samsung to pay $119.6 million (£70.9 million) for infringing Apple patents. However, it noted that Samsung hadn’t infringed all of the patents that Apple claimed.

In addition, Apple was ruled to have infringed a Samsung patent and was required to pay $158,000 damages.

Sir Crispin Davis appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Vodafone

Vodafone Group plc says Sir Crispin Davis OBE has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 28th July.

Sir Crispin was Chief Executive of Reed Elsevier until 2009, having previously been Chief Executive of Aegis Group and Group Managing Director of Guinness Group (now Diageo plc).

New European Commission rulings could help to end the 'smartphone patent wars'

This week the European Commission has made two competition-related rulings that could transform the legal landscape for technology companies involved in patent disputes.

In one case, it’s concluded that Motorola abused its position as the holder of ‘standards essential’ GSM patents by enforcing an injunction against Apple in Germany.

Facebook introduces its own mobile advertising network

Facebook has launched a mobile advertising network at its F8 developers conference, giving app developers a new option for monetising their applications.

The Facebook Audience Network offers the same level of targeting as Facebook’s browser-based ads.
