This weekend marks 30 years since Racal Electronics revealed the name of its new mobile phone service as ‘Vodafone’.
The name was announced at a press conference in London on 22nd March 1984, although it wasn’t until 1991 that Vodafone demerged from Racal and became a separate company.

Vodafone and UK-based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca have announced a global partnership that’ll see them using mobile health services to help patients with cardiovascular conditions.
The collaboration will work in partnership with healthcare professionals, who’ll enable patients to use mobile and internet-based mHealth services during their treatment.

The UK’s major mobile network operators and the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) are now all using the GSMA’s Spam Reporting Service to deal with unwanted SMS text messages.
Although networks have offered spam reporting services for several years, the involvement of the ICO will increase the likelihood of offenders being identified and fined rather than simply being blocked.

UK virtual mobile network Ovivo Mobile has closed, affecting what’s thought to be tens of thousands of customers.
The network has posted a message on its website that says “We are very sad to announce that for reasons beyond our control, OVIVO Mobile is closing down on the evening of Wednesday 19th March 2014.”
