New edition of Wired magazine includes advertisement with NFC

The April issue of WIRED magazine in the USA will include an advertisement that takes advantage of Near Field Communication to offer further information.

Luxury vehicle manufacturer Lexus is using NFC technology to promote Enform, its voice-controlled in-car navigation and information service. Placing an NFC-equipped Android smartphone near the ad will launch a mobile website containing interactive videos.

New Sony mobile phone promises touch-free navigation

Sony Mobile Communications has announced a new Android-powered smartphone. The Sony Xperia sola has a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 3.7-inch display and a 5 megapixel camera.

Notable features include NFC connectivity and what the company is calling ‘floating touch’ navigation.

Hacking a smartphone by using differential power analysis

Mark Bridge writes:

Mobile security always seems to be on the agenda – but one of the companies demonstrating its services at Mobile World Congress 2012 had a particularly stark warning.

Cryptography Research was demonstrating what’s called differential power analysis or side-channel analysis, which can be used to reveal encrypted information from a smartphone or tablet without ever needing to get hold of the device.

Isis mobile wallet adds its first banking partners in the USA

Last week, the US-based Isis mobile commerce venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, announced its first banking partners. From this summer, customers with Chase, Capital One and Barclaycard credit, debit and prepaid cards will be able to add their card details to the Isis Mobile Wallet.

The service will initially just be available in a limited number of locations before a US-wide rollout.
