Visa Europe launches more mobile options for its banking partners

Visa Europe has announced two new mobile-related money management and payment services today: Visa Mobile Person-to-Person payments and Visa Alerts.

Both will be available to the organisation’s 4,000 member banks.

Google Wallet goes live in the USA

The Google Wallet mobile payment application, which was announced by the company in May, is now being rolled out to customers in the USA.

It’s currently only available on the Google Nexus S 4G phone to customers who have a Citi MasterCard credit card or the Google Prepaid debit card and are using the Sprint network, although Visa, Discover and American Express are also expected to participate in the future.

Only 17 per cent of advertisers have a mobile-optimised site

Google UK head of mobile advertising, Simon Morgan, considers the most significant developments in the field of m-commerce and crunches the mobile numbers.

Over the past year we've seen smartphones overtake PC sales for the first time. The number of people on the mobile web globally has doubled, reaching one billion and in the UK there are now 20 million mobile internet users. If we think of search as being a barometer of consumer interest, in just 12 months there has been a huge shift.

Telefonica plans new Digital business unit for London

Telefónica has announced three significant changes to its organisational structure.

It’s setting up a new business unit called Telefónica Digital. Matthew Key, who joined O2 in 2002 and had previously been in charge of Telefónica Europe, will run the unit. It’ll be based in London with offices in Madrid, Sao Paulo, Silicon Valley and a number of locations in Asia. Around 2,500 staff will be drawn from Telefonica and its associated businesses.

Ian Hook from Compliant Phones talks about mobile phone call recording

Recording a phone call made by a mobile phone isn’t particularly difficult – it's something we do regularly for our podcasts – but recording every call made and received by a mobile phone isn't so easy. It's even more of a problem for companies with dozens or even hundreds of employees using mobile phones... and yet, for many organisations, this type of thing will soon be a legal requirement.

To learn more, I've been talking to Ian Hook, vice-president of marketing at Compliant Phones. I started by asking Ian why companies would want to record all their mobile phone calls.
