Mobile security company NQ Mobile has been called “a massive fraud” by investment research business Muddy Waters.
Not only does Muddy Waters claim that “at least 72% of NQ’s purported 2012 China security revenue is fictitious”, it also describes the NQ Antivirus 7.0 product as “unsafe for sale to consumers” and “spyware”.

Around 10,000 phones are stolen every month in London, according to the Metropolitan Police, with iPhones accounting for approximately half of all these handsets.
In total, about 50% of personal robbery offences and almost 80% of ‘theft from the person’ offences in the capital involve mobile phones.

Mobile security specialist Lookout has arranged $55 million of strategic financing.
Investors included Deutsche Telekom and Qualcomm Ventures as well as venture capital firms Greylock Partners and Mithril Capital Management, along with current investors Accel Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures and Khosla Ventures.

A new report from Juniper Research shows that more than 80% of business and consumer owned smartphones will not be protected by a mobile security product at the end of 2013.
It notes that consumer awareness of mobile security products is increasing but says there’s relatively low consumer awareness about online attacks on mobile devices.
