Continental is working with Nokia HERE for in-car telematics and precise location technology

Continental, the automotive supplier best known for its brakes and tyres, has announced a new project with the Nokia HERE mapping and location business.

It follows an announcement in September last year, when HERE partnered with Continental Corporation, Magneti Marelli and Mercedes-Benz.

Almost half of all roaming revenue is expected to come from data by 2018

Operator revenue from mobile data roaming is expected to reach $42 billion (£25.5 billion) by 2018, according to a new report from Juniper Research. That means data will generate 47% of all mobile roaming revenue, compared to an estimated 36% last year.

This increase will be driven by increasing data usage, helped by customers moving to 4G and enjoying faster connections.

Google acquires intelligent thermostat company Nest Labs

Google is moving further into the 'Internet of Things' with its latest acquisition.

It's agreed to buy Nest Labs - a company best known for its intelligent wireless thermostat - for $3.2 billion (just under £2 billion).

The number of text messages sent in the UK is reported to have fallen for the first time

The number of SMS text messages sent in the UK fell last year, according to reports that quote the latest technology predictions from consultancy firm Deloitte.

It’s the country’s first-ever annual fall in SMS volume.
