Half of us don't know our partner's mobile phone number

Research from 'life assistance' company CPP, which provides a variety of advice, insurance and practical help, says we're increasingly relying on mobiles to replace our own memories.

23 million adult Britons – 47% of the population - can't remember their partner's mobile number by heart, 30 million (61%) have the same problem with their best friend's number and 22 million (45%) don't know their parents' mobile number.

Mobile banking in the USA almost doubles in 12 months

Research company IDC Financial Insights has published a survey that shows mobile banking usage in the United States has almost doubled in the last 12 months. In fact, usage was up across all channels; branch, ATM, debit card, card centre, online and mobile. SMS text messages were the most popular form of mobile banking. However, the company points out that mobile banking is still not a mainstream channel and says it offers few revenue opportunities.

Over a third of Americans browse the web on their mobile phones

The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project has just published Mobile Access 2010; a report that looks at wireless internet use in the USA.

It says as of May 2010, 59% of all adult Americans use their laptops or mobile phones to go online wirelessly – either via WiFi or a mobile broadband card.

The percentage of people using their phones to browse the mobile web is up from 25% last year to 38% this year. 34% have used their mobiles for email – also up from 25% last year – with gaming, instant messaging and texting all showing increases as well.
