Qualcomm had ‘another strong quarter’, says CEO

Wireless technology business Qualcomm Incorporated has announced results for the three months up to 30th June.

Revenue was up 35% year-on-year to $6.24 billion (£4.06 billion), while net income increased 31% to $1.58 billion.

Carphone Warehouse says quarterly figures show ‘strong start to the year’

Carphone Warehouse Group plc has published an interim management statement for the first quarter of its financial year, which ran until 29th June.

Like-for-like sales at its CPW Europe business were up 10.6% year-on-year, while total connections were up 6.0% to 2.11 million.

O2 UK is closing its 'Help at Home' mobile telecare service

Refunds offered to all customers

Less than five months after the public launch of its Help at Hand mobile care service, O2 UK has decided to close the m-health service down.

O2 Help at Hand was launched online and in shops on 5th March, having previously just been available via the NHS and local authorities. Customers received a mobile phone that offered GPS tracking, could automatically detect if the user fell and also had an ‘emergency’ button to contact a 24-hour support centre.

New record for LG: more than 12 million smartphones shipped last quarter

Second-quarter financial results from LG Electronics show revenue up 10.1% year-on-year to KRW 15.23 trillion (£8.9 billion), although net profit was down 8% year-on-year to KRW 156 billion (£91 million).

The LG Mobile Communications Company saw revenue rise 34.5% year-on-year to KRW 3.12 trillion (£1.8 billion), with smartphone shipments reaching a new quarterly record of 12.1 million units.

Mobile by Sainsbury's announces its tariffs

The Mobile by Sainsbury’s service, which was set up earlier this month as a joint venture with Vodafone UK, has announced its pricing.

As well as offering a basic ‘pay as you go’ mobile phone service with standard calls at 8p per minute and text messages costing 4p each, there are also three 30-day allowances.
