Samsung extends its patent agreement with Nokia

Samsung has extended an existing patent licence agreement between itself and Nokia for five years, according to a statement from Nokia today.

The deal had been due to end on 31st December.

Patent wars: Apple, Microsoft and BlackBerry target mobile companies including Samsung, LG and HTC

The consortium that acquired Nortel’s portfolio of around 4,000 tech patents is now putting those patents into battle.

Those patents were bought in March 2012 for $4.5 billion by the Rockstar Consortium, which included Apple, Microsoft, RIM (BlackBerry), Ericsson and Sony.

Ofcom straightens out contracts, LG makes a curved phone and a mobile security company is accused of crooked dealings

Ofcom helps protect mobile, fixed-line and broadband customers against mid-contract price rises

UK regulator Ofcom has clarified the rules that allow customers to withdraw from a fixed-term contract if there is any change likely to be of ‘material detriment’.

It’s told fixed-line telephone, mobile phone and broadband service providers that any increase to the monthly subscription cost is likely to be regarded as such a change.
