Both came into play this week as online giant Google announced the forthcoming launch of its much-rumoured mobile payment service. Expect Google Wallet to arrive on the Nexus S 4G in the USA this summer.

Google says its own mobile wallet is coming soon

Google is the latest company to confirm its plans to launch a 'mobile wallet'.

It's been demonstrating the Google Wallet application today and says this'll be launched to consumers in the summer on the Nexus S 4G in the USA. The app has been developed in partnership with Citi, MasterCard, First Data and Sprint.

Don't get me wrong. I'm excited about the idea of mobile payments. But I think the Quick Tap launch and all this talk of a 'mobile wallet' is a little overhyped. And here are the three main reasons why.

How I built my own mobile wallet

Orange Quick Tap is official. You can buy a Samsung Tocco Lite-a-like, add the details of a participating card provider and Bob's your uncle.

Except I've already got a phone. And a credit card that's not from Barclays. So what can I do?
