The US and European businesses of SEGA Corporation have formed a new publishing initiative that’s focussed on publishing mobile games made by independent developers.
It’s called the SEGA Alliance and will offer marketing support, production support and creative consultation.

New figures from the International Data Corporation (IDC) have revealed that 85% of all smartphones shipped in the second quarter of 2012 ran either Android or Apple’s iOS.
It’s a new combined high for the two mobile operating systems, contrasting with BlackBerry and Symbian which both saw their market shares fall below 5%.

Enterprise mobile security company Good Technology has published its device activation report for the second quarter of 2012. The report, which includes details of the smartphones, tablets and operating systems used by its business customers, shows that Android activations increased in Q2 2012 while iOS activations fell.
Android activations increased to 28.3% overall, while iOS activations dropped from 79.9% in the previous quarter to 70.8%.

New research from Nielsen in the USA shows that two out of three people who bought a new mobile phone in the past three months chose a smartphone and not a feature phone.
It means that 54.9% of US mobile customers currently own smartphones.
