RIM and Microsoft put Bing on BlackBerry

Microsoft and Research In Motion have announced a partnership that'll see new BlackBerry devices using Bing as the default search and map application.

It means that Bing will be the search app and map app for the new BlackBerry Playbook.

RIM unveils first devices running BlackBerry 7 OS

RIM has used the first day of the BlackBerry World 2011 event to announce two new BlackBerry Bold smartphones: the Bold 9900 and Bold 9930.

They're the first touch-screen BlackBerry Bold models and are also the first to run the BlackBerry 7 operating system. Both will be available from the summer.

Profits could be lower than expected, says RIM

Research In Motion has updated its 'financial guidance' for the current financial quarter that ends on 28th May 2011.

The company says earnings per share are likely to be lower than the figures previously forecasted.

Android has more free apps than Apple iPhone, says new report

Application store analyst company Distimo says Google's Android Market has overtaken the Apple App Store when it comes to free applications. It's calculated that Android currently has 134,342 free applications while the Apple App Store has 121,845 free applications for iPhones.

Distimo says the Android Market will become the world's largest app store (in terms of the number of applications) in around five months if all application stores maintain their current growth rate.

Apple App Store will generate three-quarters of all application store revenue this year

The four mobile application stores run by Apple, Google, Nokia and RIM will generate $3.91 billion (£2.35 billion) worldwide between them this year, an increase of 65.7% from 2010 according to IHS Screen Digest. Apple will be responsible for 75% of this market.

In 2008, the app market was worth just $207.33 million.
