Ofcom wants all UK mobile operators to be able to run a 4G network

Ofcom has published a proposal to liberalise all UK mobile licences in the 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands. This would let network operators deploy 4G technology on frequencies that had originally just been licensed for 2G or 3G services.

In addition, it’s proposing that base stations would be allowed to transmit at increased power on 900MHz frequencies.

Ericsson results hit by ST-Ericsson costs

Ericsson has published fourth quarter and full-year financial results. The company made a loss of 6.3 billion Krona (£625 million) in Q4 2012, although it remained in profit for the year.

Net income for 2012 was down 53% year-on-year to £586 million, while sales were up 5% to £6.6 billion for the quarter and almost unchanged year-on-year at £22.6 billion for the full year.

Profit falls at Facebook while revenue rises

"In 2012, we became a mobile company", says Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook has reported its fourth quarter and full-year financial results for 2012, with quarterly revenue up 40% year-on-year to $1.585 billion but net income down over 78% to $64 million.

However, the social networking company noted that its research & development costs had more than doubled from Q4 2011.
