UK telecoms regulator Ofcom says the first bid stage of its 800MHz and 2.6GHz mobile spectrum auction has now started.
Seven companies are competing for 4G spectrum in a process known as a ‘combinatorial clock auction’ that’s expected to take several weeks and a number of separate bidding rounds.

A new report from Juniper Research expects the amount of money spent on mobile marketing by retailers will reach $55 billion per year (£35 billion) by 2015, which is almost double the $28 billion spend expected this year.
Advertising on tablets and smartphones is now showing strong growth, with retailers in North America and Western Europe moving their general ad spending towards online ads - and to mobile in particular.

Good Technology, which provides secure ‘bring your own device’ technology to businesses, has published its second annual customer survey.
The report shows that 76% of businesses now support employees using their own mobile devices for work, while just 5% have no plans to support BYOD.

UK mobile phone retailer Phones 4u is launching its own virtual mobile network in March. The service, which will be called ‘LIFE Mobile’, will run on the EE network.
Initially it’ll offer just 2G and 3G connections, with 4G planned to be added later in the year.
