Mobile money users to double in next two years says report

A new report from Juniper Research says the number of active mobile money users globally will exceed 200 million by 2013. Under 100 million people use these services at the moment.

The report says much of this growth will come from developing countries, where users want a way to access basic financial services.

Teleca acquires UK-based SurfKitchen

It’s been a week of UK investments and acquisitions. First Volantis, then Saffron Digital - and now SurfKitchen.

The Reading-based mobile internet usability experts have been acquired by Teleca, a Swedish company that offers a wide range of mobile solutions and services. SurfKitchen will remain as an independent business unit within Teleca.

New technology solution lets Android apps run on non-Android phones

Zurich-based mobile software company Myriad Group has announced a new technology solution called Myriad Alien Dalvik.

Alien Dalvik enables Android applications to operate on other platforms and devices, allowing app stores to repackage Android APK files and offer them on non-Android phones.

Last.fm to make mobile listening a subscription-only service for most UK users

Online music service Last.fm is introducing a subscription charge for listening to its 'Last.fm Radio' streaming music service on most UK mobile phones, including Android and iPhone devices.

Mobile scrobbling - automatically logging the music you play - will remain free, as will access to recommendations and forums.

Antenna Software acquires UK mobile internet company Volantis

Mobile application company Antenna Software has acquired mobile internet software business Volantis Systems. The combined company will operate under the Antenna brand and will employ "the majority of Volantis employees".

Antenna will now be able to offer its customers a broader range of mobile web solutions, including the underlying architecture for mobile commerce and enterprise app stores.
