Orange is first UK network to announce iPad tariff pricing

Although the UK's 'big three' networks all announced support for the Apple iPad on the same day (and with very similar statements), it's Orange UK that has revealed the first UK iPad tariffs.

The company says it's extending its partnership with Apple – having already launched the iPhone in 30 countries - to offer iPad price plans for customers in France, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Pay-as-you-use, daily, weekly and monthly data plans will all be available on special micro-SIMs to fit the iPad.

Google Nexus One: quarterback or cheerleader?

Mark Bridge writes:

Four months ago, Google unveiled a new way for consumers to buy an Android mobile phone. In fact, that’s pretty much what the first line of the press release said. The phone was the Nexus One and it was being sold online by Google.

You could buy it SIM-free or you could buy it with a contract – but you’d be buying it from Google’s online shop. You couldn’t buy it on a real high street.

Blyk, which ran its own ad-funded mobile network in the UK before working with Orange, has launched a consumer mobile phone service with Vodafone in the Netherlands. The two companies announced a partnership deal last July.

Blyk NL promises 1,000 monthly free minutes of Blyk-to-Blyk calls and 1,000 monthly text messages to consumers aged 16 to 29 who top up their account by 10 Euro every three months. As with the UK service, users need to provide their own MMS-capable mobile phone.
