Digital security company Bit9 says more than a quarter of the Android applications it analysed may pose security risks to users. It points out this could have particularly serious implications for the growing ‘bring your own device’ trend within businesses.
More than 400,000 apps in the Google Play marketplace were analysed by Bit9, which looked at the permissions requested by these applications.

The new BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system from RIM is still on course to launch in the first quarter of 2013, according to a recent announcement from the company. New BlackBerry devices will also be announced alongside the OS.
BB10 was originally planned for a 2012 release.

UK electrical retailer Comet is expected to go into administration next week, although the business will continue operating while its administrator considers the available options.
Comet was bought a year ago by investment firm OpCapita.

Virgin Media has created two new ‘pay as you go’ mobile phone tariffs, one with unlimited landline calls and the other with unlimited data and text messages.
It follows the creation of unlimited ‘pay monthly’ Virgin Media deals earlier this year.
